Backhoe
(Aug 18, 2006)
In June the authorities came in with large equipment to start the huge
job of repairing the landslide damage. Up on the mountain they made rock
retention walls to support the logging roads and hopefully to help
prevent further slides. They have cleaned the farmhouse land of the tons
of rocks, mud, and trees. They have brought in truckloads of large rocks
and gravel. They have dug a system of deep trenches to guide the water
in heavy rains. They constructed a retention wall out of huge rocks and
filled the gap with the extra dirt. They are currently leveling that
into a small ball field, which is something we have always wanted. They
built another small retential wall and leveled out a small parking lot.
They dug us a road up to the barn behind the farmhouse. This was
inaccessible before by almost any kind of vehicle.
