Missionary Teen Retreat 11

The MTR is on Facebook!

December 4-10, 2014
As I write this, the MTR11 is now a week past, and all the teens are back home. The retreat was greatly blessed of the Lord and we have every reason to believe He did a powerful and permanent work in many of their lives. Pastor Dale & Denise Cunningham connected wonderfully with everyone and the teens soon realized the privilege they had to listen to some of God's choice servants. There were 24 teens and 3 a bit older, from seven different countries, including YAP in Micronesia! The theme could be summarized in a chorus we learned, called "Jesus, You're the Center of my Joy". We want to thank the many dear friends who prayed and again gave to help this unique ministry. Only the Lord, who is the Rewarder of the faithful, can properly recompense you for your investment. To God be the glory! AB

Dear Missionaries and kids,
We are starting to prepare for our exciting MTR11 adventure and looking forward once more to the wonderful time we will all have together at the Aierdi farmhouse. Here is some preliminary information: Our guest speakers are Pastor Dale and Denise Cunningham. Arrival and Departure dates: December 4th/11th Best airport: Bilbao, (BIO) Cost for this year (same as in recent years): Here is the amount that helps with the expenses: 115€ (1 teen), 182€ (2), 240€ (3), and 295 (4) Our guests: |
For those who want to help missionary families.Every year there are churches and friends interested in helping the missionary families get their kids to the retreat. Those who fly in from other European countries often spend hundreds of dollars just to get their teens to the farmhouse. Donations that come in are dispersed in two ways: Some of the funds go towards the overall expenses, cutting down on everybody's cost. The rest of the money goes back to those who need it the most for transportation. If you are interested, you can write us for information, or send funds directly to our mission board. The next retreat is in December, 2014.

We are excited about having the Zimmer kids with us this December! They are MKs to YAP, and usually on the opposite side of the world from Spain. However, their family is on furlough at this time, and due to the generosity of many friends at Berean BC, they will be flying over from the USA, to join us in another wonderful adventure!

OFFICIAL EMAIL NOTE (sent OCT 4)
Hello missionary teens and parents,
The 11th Missionary Teen Retreat starts in exactly two months! Some of you have already contacted us concerning flights, arrival times, and so forth. Here is some information that will help. Please write back with any questions.
Emails
Parents, if you don't mind, please send me the personal email addresses of your teens. Everyone, please let me know if you find out that I'm missing names or addresses from anyone interested in attending.
Dates
The dates for the Missionary Teen Retreat 11 at Aierdi are December 4th (THU) through 10th (WED).
Guests
Our guests for this year will be Pastor & Mrs. Dale Cunningham. The Cunninghams are good friends of the Aierdi ministries and will be a wonderful blessing!
Confirmed list
We will start this list after the responses to this email.
Website & Facebook
Here is the Missionary Teen Retreat webpage; we will try to keep it updated with relevant information. We also communicate a bunch through the MTR FACEBOOK PAGE.
Cost
The costs are identical to last year: 115€ (1 teen), 180€ (2), 240€ (3), and 295€ (4). However, every year churches and friends send in gifts to help with those expenses, as well as some of the transportation costs. We can all be praying for this to happen again. And since we can't calculate the amount of reduction until we actually know how many teens will join us, please send this money with your teens, in cash.
They WILL return with some of it back . . . hopefully a lot of it!
Arrival/departure times & options
The airport code to fly into is BIO (Bilbao). BIQ (Biarritz) is also an option. Please do your best to have them arrive on Thursday (4th) morning or afternoon, and leave Wednesday (10th) at noon or afternoon. Anything else makes us take more and more trips to the airport. I know it is sometimes impossible to choose the best times. We will adapt!
Music & instruments
We welcome orchestra instruments if you have room in your luggage and would like to use them. Stringed instruments (except guitars) and wind instruments can be played along with most of the singing. We have classical guitars that are for Aierdi staff and other special needs. Our musical style, as you should assume, is traditional and conservative. If you have questions, please write Miss Sarah O'Brien. She will be coordinating the preparation of special music by the teens, for our Living HopeBaptist Church services on Sunday. ([email protected])
Allergies
It is very important to let us know IN ADVANCE if the MKs have any important allergies.
Dress
GUYS: YES to long pants and shirts! For one thing, it will be winter; for another, we want regular length pants on the guys:)
GALS: YES to skirts, loose-fitting slacks and blouses!
We would prefer to not have to ask anybody to change what they are wearing, so please don't drive on the edge:)!
EVERYBODY: Aierdi is still a rustic FARMHOUSE, so dress warmly and don't worry about fancy clothes! Bring hiking boots or rough shoes for walks up the mountain. Don't forget to bring HOUSE SHOES for inside the farmhouse. If the weather is disagreeable (something quite likely) we will be changing footwear every time we go in and out. Also, the SOCKS ONLY RUG will be in place, so you may want to make sure you have some socks that don't have holes in them!
Cell phones & earphones
From Thursday evening until Wednesday morning we will have your cell phones and other electronic listening devices well protected in the office. It is our prayer that all of you will interact and become good friends with as many other MTs as possible. Earphones are positively anti-social!
Questionnaire
Soon each of the teens will receive a simple email questionnaire to answer. These will help us know them a tiny bit before they even arrive. It will not take long to fill out, and of course, all of you parents will be able to see the questions. There is a different question for newcomers and "veterans".
Inviting others
The main way other MKs find out about the retreat is through word of mouth . . . so feel free to invite others to write us for info. Just remember, if they are going to enjoy our retreat they should be of like faith and similar standards. In other words, they should be conservative, dedicated, independent, happy Baptists!
Remember our purpose
From the beginning our purpose in organizing the Missionary Teen Retreats has been to help the teens of foreign missionaries understand their God-given privilege and unique opportunities as MKs. Of course we want to do this in a setting that is fun and exciting, but our goal remains to help them see that to whom much has been given, much shall be required. We pray fervently that the Lord will use us to challenge them in this way.
Don't forgets
Family pictures, prayer cards
If possible, please bring a printed family picture, or current prayer card, so we can pin them up on a bulletin board for the rest to see.
Beauty
We will not be having any kind of beauty or fashion contest . . . bring practical clothes that primarily keep you warm! Most airline luggage limitations will not allow for too much formal clothing. A "nice casual" apparel for Sunday would be fine, but that's your call.
Gift exchange
This is always a fun activity, and popular! Please bring a wrapped gift that costs no more than 10 euros--it can be less! A possibility would be some typical goodies from your country. Label it GUY or GAL (whatever YOU are) or GUY/GAL and do NOT put your name on it.
Contact phone numbers (Spanish code is 34)
We are looking forward to another FANTASTIC retreat!
God bless you all,
"Uncle Andy"
